Since the start of Liberalisation, Privatisation
and Globalisation process, after India started following the western (American)
model of development in 1991, 'Men and women equality' is the frequently talked
topic. This resulted to the increase in the number of marriage break-ups, which
were not common in Indian culture. The values in our culture were strong enough
to prevent divorce cases which led to marriage break-ups. The more
and more formal education gained, it is leading to disrespect the elders and
life-partner. More number of people are questioning the elders and life-partners
without any regret or respectfulness or thought over. The improper education
system and financial independence is leading to don't-care attitude towards
each other and the faith in cultural values and practices of our society is
decreasing. We are trying to make our belief, that 'Equality Issue' will give
better life to the women, become true. But in reality, it is not so. Adjustment
is the key factor for the success of a marriage and if ego dominates, it leads
to failure in the marriage relationship. The flexibility nature and
adjusting characteristic of both man and woman in the marriage
relation will lead to success in marriage. Nowadays, women are against these
characteristics, due to the issue of equality and financial independence based
on western philosophy. The disadvantages in adjustments and
flexibility nature of women or even men in marriage life are better than
the position after divorce in leading single life.
At
first, equality issue seems to be good for the women, but seeing the
after-effects in the long run, it leads to bad effect on the family life. The
joint family concept is disappearing in our country, moving towards nuclear
family concept and to single life concept. In the joint family system,
relationship or bonding was strong enough to overcome the problems and
relationships sustained.
This
is not the final opinion; the matter is open for further discussion. As and as
more discussion happens the knowledge of a particular topic is led to next
level.
My view is this:
ReplyDeleteThe increase rate of divorce is a good sign, unhealthy relationships and dysfunctional families are not forced to live under one roof due to out-dated customs and norms.
The next good sign will be when the rate of marriage drops, thus reflecting on the reduced need for couples to comply with religious/ customary personal laws, in managing their personal relationships.
May relationships be good and everlasting, not "marriages".
