Science, Technology and Development is Not the Ultimate Goal of Mankind

Today we all talk, a lot about science, technology and development, but they all have limitations. Whatever we talk or hear about, we try to see in the angle of science, it should be having scientific reasoning or explanation. That’s how our mind is set, the mind of all who have undergone formal schooling. We never try to believe whichever has no proper scientific reasoning or explanation. But you should know one thing that science has limitations. Our so called scientists or science has no proper reasoning or explanation regarding many things like earth’s rotation on its axis or revolution around sun, beyond our solar system, about other planets or what is holding the planets in their particular positions. Like this there are many mysteries which are yet to be found out by man. But that doesn’t mean, beyond our knowledge, everything else is false or MOODANAMBIKE.

Earlier we used to spread cow dung diluted with water in front of the main door, paint the house walls with lime wash and applied turmeric to the wood below the main door as part of tradition. All these have anti-bacterial, anti-viral or anti-septic properties which prevented the entry of microorganisms into house. Then, even though we did not know the reason behind the practices, we used to follow our traditions. Recently we found out that, peepal tree, banyan tree and ivy-like fig tree produce more oxygen. That’s why we find them near temples. Thereby they are protected from cutting of the trees by the people. Other trees which are away from villages, particularly large trees, get protected by passing a message from one another, saying that devil stays on the tree. In this way our ancestors made the people to follow the traditions by way of devotion or fear. The traditions had a good reason behind them and sustainable in nature. Nowadays, even after knowing the proper reason, we never try to follow, do or implement the same.

While inventing a new technology, the usage or the advantages of it, only one side of a coin, are kept in mind and after invention; the technology is thrown open to society. After sometime, say few years, you will come to know the disadvantages or adverse effects, the other side of the coin. Then you will be in such a state that you cannot take back or repair the ill effects of the so called new technology. You can only repent and just experience the good or bad of it. That is how, today technology is or even development is about.

Mankind should not follow the path of perishing or destructive (self-interest only), laid down of so called Science, Technology and Development. Instead, follow the path of happiness to all the living beings (live and let live), like that of our ancestors - the sustainable path.
